The Advantages of Solar Energy

Harnessed by the human race for thousands of years, solar power can be used for heating, cooking, energy, and a multitude of other technologies to make our lives easier.  Solar power may be active or passive; active energy requires the use of solar thermal collectors and photovoltaic panels, while passive energy uses smart building techniques, materials that collect or disperse light or heat, and spaces that can circulate air in order to heat a building using the sun’s heat and light.

Here are the main advantages to active solar energy:

1: Eco Friendly

Arguably the most lauded benefit of this type of energy, the protection of the environment is no small bonus. When you use energy harnessed from the sun, you reduce your use of non-renewable resources like oil and coal, which in turn reduces pollution caused by the drilling, manufacture, transportation, and the burning of fossil fuels.

Solar power is renewable; every day, the sun will come up and provide us with heat and light which we can store for future energy use. This type of energy is also very clean; it produces no smoke, no fumes, and no toxic emissions.

2: Low Cost

Solar energy is free, once you get your system installed. Of course, there is an up-front cost to get your panels and battery system set up, but once you have done that, every bit of energy you get from the sun is absolutely free. Your initial investment should pay for itself within two or three years.

You can even profit from the energy you store; if you don’t use all of the power you generate, you can sell it back to the grid as a passive income source.

3: Low Maintenance

The maintenance of a solar energy system is relatively inexpensive and easy. Unless you experience a violent storm that damages the cells, you will have very little maintenance to perform on a regular basis; all you have to do is make sure the panels are clean and are not blocked by something that would prevent the sun’s rays from reaching them.

4: Government Incentives

Many governments offer incentives for you to switch to clean energy. You can receive tax rebates, credits, and other incentives when you install a solar energy system.

5: Reliable Energy

Freedom from the grid means that if the power ever goes out, you’ll still have energy. It also means that as long as your system produces enough energy for your needs you will never pay another energy bill again. You will never again be at the mercy of an energy provider that constantly raises energy prices.

6: Solar Energy Is Available Anywhere

Even if you live in the most remote place on earth, as long as you can see the sun, you can use its heat and light for energy. Some places are so remote that hydro lines cannot be installed; but the installation of a solar energy system is possible as long as you can get the components to the site.

7: Solar Energy Systems Are Flexible

If you want to only supplement your energy with solar power, you can do that with a small system. If you want to switch all of your energy requirements to solar power, you can do that too. Choose the technology that suits your budget, your requirements, and your location.
