Taking Care of your Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are not as hard to maintain as one might think, but if you want them to last you should ensure you are caring for your blind properly.
Cleaning you blinds
To clean Venetian blinds you will need to use a damp cloth and gentle wipe each blade. Be careful not to rub hard as you may bend the slat. If you need to rub a bit harder, hold one hand under the area and rub with the other. Just be gentle.
If you would rather clean your blinds by taking them down, just unclip the brackets and release the blind. It is best to use another person to help with this, as you do not want the blind to drop on your head or onto the floor.
There are certain parts of your Venetian blinds that may become damaged, but the good news is that there are common replacement parts on the market. The most common replacement parts include the chain and the bottom rail.
Common Issued with Venetian blinds
When you first install the blinds, you may have trouble lowering the blinds. In most cases, this is due to the cord lock not releasing. If this happens, just life the cord level with the head rail and gently pull. If this does not release the cord, you will need to remove the blinds from the window and find the cord lock mechanism that is in the head rail. Use a screwdriver and gently push the pin, which will disengage the cords. Be careful not to touch the cords or you could break them.
If your blinds are hanging unevenly, all you have to do is extend the blinds completely a few times until they hang evenly.
In some cases, you may need to replace slats on your blinds. This can be easily done by cutting the cord above the knot and pull the cord through the damaged slat. Replace the slat, then weave the cords through the holes and replace the cord back into the bottom rail and tie securely.
