While you may have done a good job painting your walls and installing new flooring, this does not mean you are a do it yourself expert at everything. Some renovation tasks require the skill and eye of a professional. This includes plumbing. Below are seven reasons why you should leave plumbing renovations to a professional.
1. Professionals Find Permanent Solutions
While you may think your quick plumbing fix is genius, it may only be a temporary stop gap to a growing issue. A professional plumber, however, will always look for a permanent solution to plumbing problems as they are trained and have the skills to take care of these issues in the best way possible.
2. Plumbing Renovations Could Involve the Sewer
According to South West Plumbing, big plumbing renovations and repairs often require working with the sewer. A layperson will have no experience working with a sewer. Professionals also have specialized equipment such as sewer cameras that homeowners do not possess. Also, the bright side of having a professional work with sewer issues, you don’t have to get messy or have bad odors coming off of you when you are done.
3. The Stakes Are High
You should only attempt plumbing renovations and repairs if you have significant experience and competence working with plumbing systems. Working with plumbing can be very sensitive and very complex. One wrong move, and you can create more problems for yourself than what you are originally trying to fix. If you do something wrong, flooding your home and ruining your possessions is a very real possibility. So unless you have a lot of experience in handling plumbing renovations, you need to call a professional to help out as soon as possible.
4. You Will Miss Many Major Issues
Without specialized knowledge, you will likely miss a lot of issues and not be able to properly trouble shoot problems based on the evidence that exists. A professional should be able to spot all problems and then give a diagnostics report afterwards.
5. Installing Pipes Is Difficult
One plumbing renovation task you may need performed is the installation of new pipes. However, installing pipes can be quite difficult. Running water through pipes that have been improperly installed can be a disaster.
6. You Won’t Have the Right Equipment
Much of the equipment needed to perform a complex plumbing renovation won’t be available to you. That equipment will not be in your garage, and you won’t find it at Home Depot either. A plumber, however, will have all the right tools.
7. Your Drinking Water Won’t Be Contaminated
A poorly done plumbing renovation can even have very negative effects on people’s health. If improperly installed plumbing contaminates your drinking water, it could put your family’s health at risk.
It is always a very rewarding feeling when you complete a home improvement project completely on your own. However, it is best to leave the plumbing aspect of a home renovation to a professional plumber. Doing a poor job with your plumbing can have very negative consequences for both your home and family.
