When building a new home, most people wish it would just be done already. It’s important to remember that forcing the construction process to speed up could potentially end in lackluster work being done, but if you’re on a tight schedule, there are several ways you can speed up your home’s construction. When working with a construction company like Allcon (NSW) Pty Ltd, keep the following strategies in mind:
1. Be Upfront about a Timetable
If you want your house to be finished by a certain time, make sure that is clear upfront—preferably written in any contract you sign with your builder. If your contractor is unwilling to give you an answer, press for one or go with a different builder. On the other hand, understand that things out of everyone’s control do happen and a specific date for completion might not be met for any number of legitimate reasons.
2. Be Accommodating to the Construction Crew
If someone likes you, they’re going to be much more motivated to go out of their way to make you happy. For example, if it is hot outside, offer the construction crew cold bottled water or ice cream treats. Move your vehicles and other things out of their way and just generally make it as easy as possible for them to get their job done well and in a timely manner. They’ll be more motivated to do a good job for you and less likely to waste time asking you to move things, getting the project completed more quickly.
3. Provide Needed Information in a Timely Manner
If your contractor asks for information, samples or a decision to be made, go about it in a timely fashion. It’s easy to forget about things like that when the paperwork gets buried on your kitchen counter, so be on the ball and don’t be the reason for delays if you can help it. Also, plan for financing well in advance so you aren’t stuck waiting for decisions to come through.
4. Don’t Request "Problem" Products
Any product that is difficult to obtain, not currently available or expensive could potentially put the brakes on your construction. The best way around this is to listen to your contractor, ask them questions and do your own research into what’s available and what’s not, and for what price relative to your established budget. Think twice about luxuries that really aren’t necessary or that can be added later.
5. Use Products or Materials That Will Speed Up The Process
Products like concrete tilt up panels save time and money because they are constructed on-site and don’t require hefty transportation costs. Choosing to use products that can be obtained locally and that are in stock will not only cut down on shipping costs but will go a long way toward completing your home faster.
Perhaps most importantly, if you are upset with your contractor for whatever reason, bring your concerns to their attention immediately and professionally. Don’t nitpick, nag or be rude—this will only work against you in the end. With all of this in mind, you should be able to effectively speed up the process and end up with a beautiful home.
