Three Reasons to Order a Geotechnical Construction Investigation

Geotechnical drilling is now considered to be a common practice to ensure the successful implementation of engineering plans. Many modern construction plans require the more advanced techniques of geotechnical construction. However, before engaging in geotechnical construction there are three reasons to consider an investigation.
Geotechnical Construction Regulations:
In most states geotechnical construction is governed by a number of regulations and rules. Often before any drilling or construction is undertaken on a new site an investigation is needed to determine that the ground is safe for building and that there are no issues such as large rock formations which could compromise the structure. This verification of safety is often needed for building permit approval.
Facilitating Superior Foundations:
One of the most common reasons for requesting a geotechnical construction investigation is to create superior foundations for your structure. While conventional piling can be sufficient, geotechnical engineers can assist in creating more elaborate foundation support plans which are economically more effective. In fact, dramatic improvements for the construction of foundations have been established based on the results of geotechnical drilling and investigation. This has allowed for superior construction of bridges, taller buildings, levees and piers.
Check for Soil Contamination:
Another common reason to consider an investigation is to detect and remedy soil contamination. Since contaminated water or oil can compromise the health of both humans and animals, it is important to detect any potential leaks caused from careless waste disposal or compromised underground fuel tanks. This type of investigation is often required during the second phase of environmental assessment especially if the ownership of the site has recently changed.
