Choosing the Color Scheme
for Your Kitchen (hometipster)
home building articles and tips
With seemingly limitless colours to choose from it can be a real challenge to get a kitchens colour scheme right. However you can narrow down these infinite colours into smaller groups based on what type of kitchen you have or are trying to create.
If you are going for a traditional country kitchen or a Tuscan style then vibrant tones of red, orange and yellow would work perfectly in this environment. These tones would also compliment some neutral coloured tiles or wooden flooring as a contrast to the brightly coloured walls.
This will give a warming and welcoming feeling to the room, which is one of the foundations of the practical country style kitchen. For a more modern look, black and white are a classic combination which is still as popular as ever.
Checked flooring can be used in retro and traditional kitchens as well.
When looking at the walls, blocks of black and white can be slightly dull so splashes of red around the room can really bring your kitchen to life. Alternatively, you can use bold colours for your kitchen cabinets and contrast these against neutral walls.
Using these colours sparingly will increase their impact on the room and can also save you time and money by just painting the kitchen units.
For alternative contemporary looks, you could be brave an opt for splashes of green around the kitchen. This colour is not to everyone’s liking so don’t choose this if you are decorating for a property development or resale.
However areas of pea green for example against black and white check tiles will give you an individualistic look that will make you stand out from the crowd.
