The sweet taste of success and joy that people feel when they start building their own home from scratch is a wonderful feeling. Driven by your vision and desire to create a unique place of your own, you get more strength than ever to make the whole thing look perfect. Of course, before you set off for such a demanding and important step, you have to take care of all the details when it comes to the design of the place. Exterior design is extremely important here, because it makes the first impression of your home.

A matter of (a)symmetry

One of the first things that every home-maker needs to pay attention to is the symmetry of the home and its surroundings. If the interior space of a house is symmetrical with its exterior counterpart, the whole place will be closer to artistic and architectural ideals. Since nature itself always leans towards perfection, our brains like symmetrical shapes. For instance, if you are fond of flowers and flower beds, make an equal number of them on both sides of your pathway(s). The same goes for trees and hedges; giving your home a green symmetry means following those new-age, eco-friendly building patterns.

Materials – the style makers

Imagine a wooden house with PVC window frames. It does not fit, right? For some inexplicable reason, people often make such beginner’s mistakes in architecture. Just like in the clothing and fashion industries, materials are status symbols in the construction branch, as well. So, if you want your exterior part to fit the interior area, always match natural materials. Mixing wood and PVC, on the other hand, simply looks unappealing and reveals a complete lack of taste. For instance, when it comes to windows, find out more about aluminum and other window frames, since they come in various colors and have a high insulation value, as well.

Yard-friendly plants

There is nothing more impressive than well-trimmed and beautifully-arranged plants in the front yard. From trees and flower beds to shrub hedges, plants are the key features of exterior home design. However, you have to be careful when you are choosing those plants. First of all, you should never plant a tree that has strong roots, since it will ruin your lawn and other plants. Secondly, also avoid too tall trees. They could damage your roof or even fall on your home in case of a storm; have a look at these yard-unfriendly trees and never use them in your garden.
However, if you buy an old place or a patch of land with inappropriate trees and decide to cut them down or trim their branches, consider a scissor lift for the redecoration process, to make the whole process safer, faster and easier to manage.

Color considerations

The colors you choose for your home are its trademark – something that will make everybody who comes to your place remember it. Again, here you can apply the same philosophy that we recommended for materials – go natural. Choose the colors from the same color family or go for different shades of the same color. Such an approach will give your curb appeal a fresher and more symmetrical look. Just imagine a beige-toned house, fronted by gentle, peachy roses. Also, the porch plays a great role in making the home exterior special, so here are some wonderfully painted porches to get you inspired.

To make your new home an impressive and attractive place, it is necessary to take equal care of its interior and exterior features. Only a home that has equally beautiful interior and exterior parts is a cozy home that makes its owners proud of living in it.
