How to Create a Welcoming Foyer

Have you had the same decor in your foyer area since day one? Mix it up a bit and redecorate that space into a cozy and welcoming room! The foyer is the first room your friends and family see when they walk through the door, so make sure it’s memorable. Use these five tips while redecorating your foyer:

Wall Decor Art

What’s more welcoming than a family portrait? Try mixing it up a bit by making a photo collage wall, using all different types of frames and mirrors and mix them together. Instead of printing a larger-than-life photo of your family, make your own! There are a few cool photo tips floating around the Web, using Mod Podge, a canvas and a picture. All you need to do is print the photo you like large enough to cover the canvas you have. Place the photo on the canvas with Mod Podge, then apply a generous coat of the Mod Podge on top. This will give a professional canvas photo look at a fraction of the price. If you want to cover the edges, opt to paint them or use decorative scrapbook paper.

Wrought Iron Decor

When one sees iron, their first thought may be “Medieval times.” But using wrought iron throughout your foyer will add an elegant and bold look. Since the foyer is the first thing you see when you walk in the door, you want to be sure to impress. Welcome your guests with an iron staircase railing, decorative pieces, and a wrought iron table. Take it a step further and switch out that boring light for an iron chandelier. Try using window blinds as well with a soft white or lace effect, which will add depth to all that iron.

Entryway Bench

If you have a very large open space, consider using a large entryway bench. By utilizing a bench, it will transform that space that was once wasted into a place for putting on shoes or a place to gather with friends. There are a variety of ways to incorporate a bench: using one that you see at the park, a picnic bench or even one you have made yourself using an old door or headboard. Try decorating the bench with pillows and cushions, which will draw your guests’ eyes into your home the second they enter the door.

Stick With Nature Themes

Burlap, burlap and more burlap! You can find this magical piece of fabric at any fabric or craft store. Using burlap has become a very popular home decor tip. It is used for pillows, making garlands or inside picture frames for decoration. Burlap comes in a variety of colors (like brown, white, green and blue), but the most popular is the natural color, which has a brownish-mauve tone. This color will go with anything in your home as it is very versatile.

Another nature tip is to decorate tables and bookshelves with bird cages, moss, ceramic birds and makeshift candlesticks (made popular by sites like Pinterest and Etsy).

Focus on One Area for Small Spaces

If you have a small foyer area, focus on one area to accent. Adding something as simple as a side table with a lamp and flowers or a plate for keys will add some extra flair for that small space. If you can, hang some art work on the wall above the small table, giving the illusion of a larger wall.
